For more information, visit www.eastman.com.ResponsibilitiesThe Laboratory Technician position is responsible for providing QA/QC support for daily site operations and for in-service customer samples and analyses.Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performing testing and analysis for raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, customer sample data analysis and reporting, coordinating other inspections and/or release of material in LIMS/SAP, verifications/PMs/calibrations of laboratory equipment, reagent/equipment/consumable inventory control, documentation creation/review/control and as well as other functions necessary to support site Quality Assurance. The successful candidate will need to have the following skills and capabilities:Calculate, interpret, record, and file resultsRecord, prepare, and track samples throughout the lab processMaintain the sample retain system, including storage, disposal, retrieval and record keepingPerform Quality Assurance activities to verify the capability of equipment and methodsPrepare standardsPerform routine calibration and adjustments of laboratory instruments using analytical standardsAssemble, dismantle, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and calibrate glass, mechanical and electronic analytical test equipmentPerform Test Method reviews to ensure compliance and conduct training for other laboratory personnelCommunicate, and coordinate with operating personnel regarding analytical resultsPromptly report to supervisor any problems, significant test result variations from normal, and test results outside of specificationWork as necessary with lab analysts to complete workload and prioritize analyses to support plant operationsUnderstand and adhere to site safety rules and policies, and participate in site safety initiativesTrain or assist in training of others on laboratory technician responsibilities when requestedPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Lab Manager to support site operationsMaintain laboratory areas in a clean, safe, and well organized mannerMaintain an inventory of glassware, chemicals, instrument parts, and other items for laboratory usageWork with lab stock room vendors to keep lab supplies inventoriedPrepare, package, and ship product samples to customers when neededProvide support for customer inquiries and complaintsStep-up for Lab Manager in their absence and take on associated responsibilitiesWork with HSES rep to coordinate/document environmental compliance related analysesLead/coordinate monthly lab safety inspectionsSchedule annual vendor maintenance for major equipmentQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Chemistry preferred, other Science or Engineering degrees may be consideredExperience with Sample Manager, SAP, EZ Chrom, Chromeleon software is highly preferredComputer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access.Experience with GC, ICP, LC, RI, IC, Densitometer, TOC, Oil and grease extractor, turbidity meter, and colorimeter preferredAbility to multitask, and prioritize a variety of analytical tasksStrong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with othersExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGood organizational and problem solving skillsHighly motivated self-starterWork independently with minimal supervision, when necessaryWillingness to work overtime and weekends, when requiredEastman Chemical Company is an equal opportunity employer.
