Entry Level - Refining Engineer - Instrument Reliability Job
Summary The Galveston Bay Refinery is seeking an Entry Level
Instrument Reliability Engineer to lead Instrumentation Reliability
initiatives and improvements at the site. The primary job function
of this position is to support the instrument mechanical integrity
program and ensure compliance in his or her responsible areas. This
position will also ensure all instrumentation is designed,
installed, maintained, and operated such that they perform the
intended function reliably. The Instrument Reliability Engineer
supports all Maintenance and Operating Area Teams on issues related
to instruments and analyzers, and regularly collaborates with all
other departments. The Instrument Reliability Engineer will develop
an understanding of priorities of all instrument and analyzer
issues in his or her responsible areas and effectively communicate
to all respective stakeholders. Hours: Monday - Thursday - 7 AM -
5:30 PM. Support with Turnaround as needed. Cover weekend on-call
only three times a year. Key Responsibilities : Support the
Reliability Team by providing technical assistance for instrument
and analyzer advisor, maintenance foremen, and maintenance
technicians. Identify and manage a list of threats/bad actors,
facilitates root cause failure analysis and provides
recommendations for improvement based on economic justification.
Develop Project Request Forms (PRFs) for reliability improvements
and champion those through completion Utilize available tools to
identify, quantify, and analyze reliability threats, and measure
reliability improvements (Meridium, AMS, SAP, PI, SPI) Identify
critical spare parts/equipment needs and ensures equipment is set
up in stores. Identify and maintain a list of obsolete equipment,
and manages the replacement/upgrade plan and budget cycle. Provide
suggestions on preferred technologies and ensures appropriate
specifications are followed. Communicate lessons learned and best
practices where appropriate, and serves as a technical
liaison/consultant. Define expectations and project deliverables
and reliability requirements, and audits deliverables to ensure
requirements are met during the project life cycle. Ensure a list
of covered equipment is maintained and the method for keeping the
list accurate is effective. Develop PM tasks and intervals for all
covered equipment consistent with industry and company standards.
Develop and maintain written procedures, checklists, and acceptance
forms for testing and documenting that equipment performs
correctly. Perform equipment condition assessments to develop
shutdown or turnaround scope and develops applicable test repair
procedures for TAR group. Review corrective work orders and ensures
orders are written to the correct equipment and failure coded
properly. Review redlined test procedures and ensures redlines are
picked up. Review equipment repair reports from shops for
compliance with company standards, and ensures reports are
appropriately maintained. Education, Experience and Skills :
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor---s degree in Electrical Engineering
required from an accredited college. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
Must be proficient with Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams and
Outlook. Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a
full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa
sponsorship now or in the future. Must have a clean an valid
driver's license in order to drive a company truck at the refinery.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to
physically perform all tasks in the field. Must be able to work:
Monday - Thursday - 7 AM - 5:30 PM. Support with Turnaround as
needed. Cover weekend on-call only three times a year. Preferred
Requirements: 1- 3 years of experience working as an intern or full
time Reliability Specialist for the refining, petro-chemical or
other related heavy industry. Knowledge instrument and analytical
calibrators, communicators, and test equipment. Knowledge with
maintenance/reliability management systems including SAP, Meridium,
AMS, SPI or SIS. (SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)/Safety
Instrumented Systems (SIS) Knowledge in the design and application
of all forms of process instruments, software, networks, and
engineering configuration. This position belongs to a family of
jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level.
