The Production Superintendent (PS) will be responsible for the overall day to day overall operations of the Partial Oxidation (POX) facility in Texas City. The PS supervises and trains facility technicians. The role implements safety programs, meets fixed and variable cost commitments, executes reliability and productivity programs, and complies with quality system as well as governmental regulations. The PS works with the Maintenance Superintendent (MS) to prioritize and coordinate maintenance and operations activities.

The Production Superintendentwill supervise the operation of the unit, and associated equipment to continuously supply products in quantities and qualities safely and economically, complying with all environmental regulations and daily customer requirements.

The Production Superintendentwill maximize reliability in order to avoid unscheduled shutdowns resulting in interruption of supply to customers.

  • Keeps the facility manager informed of deviation to operating plan.
  • Ensures technicians are trained to continuously monitor and proactively check the operation for efficiency. Adjusts controls in response to changes in operational conditions and strives to anticipate problems before they occur.
  • Ensures technicians are trained to monitor critical equipment such as refractory lined piping and vessels, heat recovery, Pressure Swing Adsorber (PSA) performance, and compression efficiency.
  • Ensures technician duties are performed and formal rounds are made each shift.
  • Ensures water chemistry is maintained within specific parameters.
  • Ensures all necessary safety, environmental and production records are properly maintained. Generates reports as required.
  • Uses professional judgment in operating the facility safely, reliably, and efficiently at all times.
  • Is responsible for writing standard operating procedures (SOP)s and standard maintenance procedures (SMPs). Ensures that SOPs are used to start and stop major equipment and processes to prevent unnecessary process delays and to maintain operational consistency and reliability.
  • Frequently reviews SOPs and SMPs in order to provide guidance in procedural updates.
  • Coordinates with the maintenance organization to plan and schedule required PMs and corrective maintenance requests. The OS works with the turnaround planning team to justify and execute work that must be completed during a plant outage. The role works to ensure the full use of the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) work order system.
  • Effectively communicates operating instructions and guidelines to technicians. Communicates deviations as needed.
  • Effectively communicates to technicians, maintenance organization, facility manager, plant engineers, and the business group.
  • Is accountable for adhering to all Corporate and plant policies including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and TCEQ air, water, and waste regulations.
  • Schedules the technician's work hours and approves overtime.
  • Oversees training of operating technicians.
  • Evaluates all direct reports twice per year.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree or 10+ years Operations/refining experience
    • 5+ years of experience in an OSHA PSM covered facility
    • 2+ years demonstrated Leadership experience
