The purpose of this position is to ensure that the department's mobile computer and mobile technology equipment is maintained and works reliably to meet business needs by providing day-to-day operational support for existing technologies and end-user support for those technologies; able to fully perform technical assignments with low complexity and project-based work to promote the effective use of new and existing technology. Monitors the department's mobile computer and mobile technology equipment, assists with installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and user training and education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides on-site or remote access diagnoses and resolution to hardware and software problems by responding to walk-in, service desk, and planned work requests.
  • Manages service requests with low complexity through to resolution, or escalation to another team member while minimizing disruption to existing business use.
  • Works with vendors for the ongoing support and maintenance of relevant hardware and software.
  • May participate in an on-call rotation with other staff.
  • Installs personal computer hardware and software.
  • Coordinates installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and user training and education for the department's mobile computer and mobile technology communications equipment.
  • Assists users in connecting mobile technology devices to the network.
  • Monitors mobile computer networks, ensuring proper work integration and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates and presents user training on computers and software, provides department follow-up training as appropriate.
  • Prepares and tracks microcomputer related purchase requisitions.
  • Handles projects as assigned.

    The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computers, printers, or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or stooping, bending, very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis and extensive use of a video display terminal.

    There may be sources of discomfort, i.e., outdoor installations, hot/cold temperature and humid/wet conditions.

    "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearance where required."

    If applicable, the applicant's past performance evaluations, past and present supervisory recommendations, and/or Internal Affairs complaint history will be reviewed and considered.

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information
    Systems (MIS), or a closely related field.

    At least five (5) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware. System-specific technical certifications will often be required.

    Greater than five (5) years of directly applicable experience may be considered for substitution of up to two (2) years of the education requirement.

    --- Three (3) years of professional experience in systems analysis, supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware.
    --- Ability to install, support, and troubleshoot the Windows 10 Professional or greater operating system.
    --- Perform hardware diagnosis and replacement of defective components or parts.
    --- Analyze customer requests and recommend the appropriate mobile technology for the customer's needs (Mobile Device Management, Identity Management).

    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
