Bachelors degree or equivalent and four (4) years experience, in
social services, clinical care or clinical operations settings
including advising patients or customers of their rights and
assisting them with resolution to their issues.
This position serves as a liaison between the patient, families,
and the UTMB executive leadership team, physicians, and staff. The
advocate serves as a central resource for information concerning
patient rights, service recovery and provides a formal grievance
mechanism for UTMB Health.
The advocate will also work with UTMB leadership by using data and
patient feedback to drive patient experience improvement
opportunities. The advocate masters an understanding of our
mission, policies, and procedures to respond to patient questions
or concerns, as well as educate staff and physicians concerning
The advocate provides a critical role to help patients best utilize
the healthcare system and are experts at communicating effectively
with a wide variety of audiences. The Department of Patient
Services supports the entire UTMB Health System. This position will
be primarily based in Galveston but may need to work from other
UTMB campuses based on business needs.
To provide excellent patient/family experience by investigating
patient/family complaints in all UTMB Health settings which
includes, care provided by physicians and other healthcare
professionals, potential liability, quality of care, hospital
policy and procedure, and extensive conflict resolution with
patients and families.
Approximate salary $48,000.00 commensurate with experience.
Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm and as needed on occasion.
