Department: System Protection and Substation Engineering

The successful System Protection and Substation Engineering candidate is expected to possess, or develop in due time, a set of skills required to perform the following work:

  • Possess a working knowledge of all applicable NERC PRC, CIP, and TPL standards applicable to System Protection and ensure compliance
  • Program protective relays and other substation IEDs utilizing SEL, GE, Novatech, ABB, and other vendor software
  • Utilize Aspen short circuit database to perform coordination studies, develop relay settings, and provide fault current data to external entities
  • Manage system protection projects from start to finish. This includes, but is not limited to, holding meetings with internal and external personnel, control house design, relay panel design, relay settings development, test file creation, and commissioning support.
  • Develop specifications and perform engineering reviews for substation equipment orders that include power transformers, circuit breakers, capacitor banks, and other major equipment.
  • Provide engineering support and review results for substation and relay equipment testing that includes power factor, breaker travel and motion analysis, transformer excitation, turns ratio, insulation resistance, fiber optic tests, and others.

The successful Project Engineering candidate is expected to possess, or develop in due time, a set of skills required to perform the following work: (TX or Lewisville)

  • Develops, institutes, and improves cross-functional processes and procedures regarding project management, work management, and cost estimating
  • Handles the interface between corporate initiatives such as safety, environmental, reliability improvement programs into the corporate CMP process and procedures for large gas and electric construction projects
  • Handles the project delivery of large scale construction projects; directs internal and external meetings
  • Identifies, assesses, and implements corporate programs related to project management, cost estimation, planning and scheduling, including software and other tools
  • Forecasts, documents, verifies, and reports of all variances to senior management
  • Compiles, charts, and reports all weekly, monthly, and yearly Project Management Performance Measures to senior management
  • Works with senior management to define, coordinate, and manage project requirements to ensure labor and material resources are deployed for timeliness, efficiency, and success of project delivery

SUMMARY:
