As a Software Engineer you will report to the Engineering Manager of the team. We recognize that people come from diverse backgrounds and skills and welcome all to apply.Youll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities: Build scalable systems, libraries, and frameworks Work with your team to create test plans and ensure quality Help automate our certification process Monitor production systems and provide on-call support Create, enhance and maintain back-end services written in Scala using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ running on Kubernetes (k8s) Effectively work with other engineers and project managers to meet deliverables Work with product managers to build domain knowledge and understanding of the productYoull be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: Background in statically typed compiled languages e.g. Java, C/C++, etc Experience with SQL, Document, or KeyValue databases Experience with Git Understanding of computer science fundamentals (data-structures, control-flow, algorithms, logic) and their proper professional applications Ability to learn Scala Proficient at writing unit and integration test casesPreferred Qualification: BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical role or the equivalent experience Experience with cloud-based services and hosting (AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift) Experience integrating with third party APIs, and the ability to understand them in multiple formats Experience developing, maintaining, versioning, monitoring, and deploying APIs and web microservices Experience with production monitoring and support Experience with JVM programming languages (Scala, Kotlin, Java, Clojure) Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration Experience with MongoDB, Postgres Proven experience with build tools (maven,gradle,sbt), Unix operating systems (MacOSX,Linux) and the Unix command line (bash) Expertise with HTTP based REST services and JSON-RPC APIs Experience using various server side frameworks Proficient working with SQL databases and some NoSQL stores Interest in software engineering as a practice with a growth mindsetTo protect the health and safety of our workforce, patients and communities we serve, UnitedHealth Group and its affiliate companies now require all employees to disclose COVID-19 vaccination status prior to beginning employment. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $71,400 to $127,400.
