Job TitleManager, FarmAgencyTexas A&M Agrilife ResearchDepartmentAnimal ScienceProposed Minimum SalaryCommensurateJob LocationCollege Station, TexasJob TypeStaffJob DescriptionThe Farm Manager, under direction, manages and utilizes the University's farm as a teaching, research, and extension laboratory for the assigned division. Works with enterprises on the farm, while providing learning experiences for students enrolled in Agricultural Sciences.RESPONSIBILITIES:-Oversee operations of the Department of Animal Science Swine Center. Work cooperatively with faculty, staff and graduate students to coordinate use of swine for various teaching, research and outreach activities.-Manage the breeding, farrowing, nursery, growing and finishing enterprises for consistent production scheduling and to provide for needs for research, teaching, and outreach programs.-Oversee scheduling and transportation related to procurement and marketing of swine used for teaching, research and outreach activities, including breeding stock and adherence to agreements with genetic suppliers.-Maintain appropriate records of production and transactions to track livestock inventory, animal allocation and utilization, and for production management needs.-Develop and maintain a budget and schedule of charges for the Department of Animal Science Swine Center, in cooperation with the Associate Department Head for Operations. Track utilization and coordinate with business office to create invoices.-Oversees, coordinates, and implements farm biosecurity protocols and maintains herd health, medication, and production records. -Oversee compliance with animal care and use protocols and other compliance issues in accordance with requirements established by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).-Maintain swine facilities and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency-Coordinate and assign work schedules for student labor to ensure efficient maintenance and operation of the facility and execution of various research and teaching programs.-Oversees and coordinates feed purchasing and management.-Perform other job-related duties as requiredREQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:-Bachelor's degree in applicable field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.-Five years of related experience in farm management operations.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:-Knowledge of laboratory maintenance, equipment, and safety.-Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.-Knowledge of farm operations and standard safety procedures.-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.-Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:May require some moderate physical activity and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Must be able to maintain an on-call schedule during evenings, weekends and holidays.All positions are security-sensitive.
